BIDDEFORD — Lewiston rebounded from a tough weekend loss to Edward Little with a close 2-1 victory over Biddeford in boys’ ice hockey action Tuesday night.
The Blue Devils (10-5-1) scored a goal in each of the first two periods before Biddeford answered in the third. Sophomore forward Jeromey Rancourt scored a goal and an assist, while Griffin Wade contributed the game-opener.
The Tigers’ spoiled the shutout with a conversion from Brady Creapeau to Kerry Crepeau in the final period.
Poland/Gray-New Gloucester/Oak Hill 5, Mt. Ararat/Lisbon 2
LEWISTON — Ethan Cailler had four goals to lead the Poland/Gray-New Gloucester/Oak Hill 26ers to the 5-2 victory over the Mt. Ararat/Lisbon Eagles Tuesday night.
After Cailler made it 1-0 in the first, the Eagles jumped out to a 2-1 lead with goals by Ben Bishop and Steven Schuman in the second period.
The 26ers responded with four goals in the third period. Ryan Lavoie the only other 26er to score in the game also had two assists in the contest.
Nick Hemond made 27 saves in the victory, while Parker Lacey made 24 saves in the loss.
Unified basketball
Oxford Hills 34, Edward Little 23
PARIS — Matt Smith scored 16 points to lead Oxford Hills to a 34-23 victory over Edward Little in Unified basketball action Tuesday.
The Vikings received offensive support from Peter Mahoney and Jackie Dufresne with eight points each.
Chet Barnard netted a team-leading eight points for the Red Eddies.
Lewiston 48, Leavitt 25
LEWISTON — Abdi Bagane and Caleb Beaupre each scored 12, leading Lewiston (2-0) to a 48-25 victory in a Unified basketball game Tuesday.
For Leavitt (1-2), Nate Peterson scored 12 points and Sam Gagnon had nine.
Boys’ basketball
Gray-New Gloucester 52, Fryeburg 48
FRYBURG — Junior forward Zack Haskell drained 16 points to lead Gray-New Gloucester to a 52-48 triumph over Fryeburg in a balanced attack in WMC boy’s prelims Tuesday evening.
The Patriots (9-10) led by as much as 14 points, and the Raiders (9-10) came to within three with 40 seconds remaining. But, Tyler St.Pierre tossed five free throws down the stretch to secure the win.
Senior forward John Burk recorded a game-high 20 points, while Ryan Gullikson contributed 16 points for Fryburg in the losing effort.
Women’s basketball
St. Joseph’s 69, Bates 62
STANDISH — Junior center Morgan Cahill netted a career-high 31 points with nine rebounds and a pair of blocks to lift St. Joseph’s past Bates College, 69-62, in women’s basketball action Tuesday.
Freshman forward Nina Davenport of Freeport led the Babcats (9-13) with an impressive double-double effort of 22 points and 13 rebounds, while sophomore center Allie Coppola tallied 12 points and 15 boards.
In a contest that featured eight lead changes and three tie scores, the Monks (15-6) secured the advantage for good with the help of a 12-1 outburst midway through the second half, significantly aided by freshman forward Brianne Maloney, who totaled seven points.
