LIVERMORE FALLS — Selectmen may decide next week whether to accept Regional School Unit 73’s offer to transfer ownership of the former Livermore Falls high and middle schools to the town, Town Manager Kristal Flagg said.

She said the board discussed Tuesday whether to accept one or both of the buildings, or whether to put the issue to a town meeting vote.

“They were concerned about money, insurance costs and the costs of heating, providing water and electricity to the buildings,” she said.

Also Tuesday, the board continued work on a 2015 municipal budget proposal. This year’s budget was $2.24 million. Flagg declined to estimate what the proposed budget would be.

Flagg said the board is expected to take up capital costs such as new equipment or vehicles for the highway and police departments, and for a new roof at the Highway Department building at next week’s meeting.

Plans for the fire station, which has several structural problems, were put on hold until an architect and an engineer present their findings to selectmen.

The budget will be approved by votes in June.
