Bridge club to meet April 24

OXFORD — Oxford Hills Duplicate Bridge Club met Friday, April 17, for a five table Howell movement.

Finishing first in flight A were Rosemarie Goodwin of Lewiston and Mike True of Auburn; second, Pete Cummings of Paris and Dick Allen of New Gloucester; third, Cathy Sanderson of Waterford and Carol Curran of Waterford, who were also first in flight B; and fourth, Mike Newsom of Paris and Misha Tomic of Waterford.

Finishing second in flight B were Diana and Jim Fallon of Bridgton; third, Cindy and Bob Kirchherr of Paris; and fourth, Linda Smith and Jack Neal of Oxford.

The club will meets again at 9:15 a.m. Fridays at the recreation building on King Street, Oxford. A partner is always guaranteed.

Rangeley food pantry open Tuesdays

RANGELEY — The Ecumenical Food Pantry for Rangeley is open from 10 a.m. to noon Tuesdays in the undercroft at the Church of The Good Shepherd (The Episcopal Church) on Main Street in Rangeley.

Invasive Upland Plant workshop May 12

FARMINGTON — The Franklin County Soil and Water Conservation District will hold an invasive plant identification and control workshop from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 12, at the USDA Service Center, 107 Park St.

This training will help participants identify common upland invasive plants common to Maine’s forests and discuss mechanical and chemical control strategies for these plants.

Nancy Olmstead, Invasive Plant Biologist, will be the presenter for the classroom session and will discuss issues and controls of the invasive plants. Patty Cormier, of the Maine Forest Service, will serve as facilitator and will help with the field identification session.

Bring appropriate gear for the weather conditions for the field identification session. Pre-registration is required. Cost is $20 by April 30, $25 May or later.

Rumford Eagles to hold Air for Ash benefit

RUMFORD — The Rumford Eagles will host the Air for Ash benefit dinner and dance at 5:30 p.m. Friday, May 1.

The event will include a Chinese auction, live auction, 50/50 raffle.

Volunteers needed to clean Heritage Park gardens

CANTON — The Parks and Trails Committee is looking for a group of volunteers to donate a few hours from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, May 2, to clean up the gardens and trails at Heritage Park.

No special gardening skill is required.

Jobs range from setting up benches and tables, clearing and marking trails, to weeding and cleaning up the gardens.

People of all ages and abilities are welcome.

Refreshments will be served.

Rain date will be May 9.

Woodstock plans clean-up day

WOODSTOCK — Woodstock Conservation Commission seeks volunteers to participate in Clean-Up Day for Woodstock from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, May 2, at the Bryant Pond ball field on Lakeshore Drive.

Volunteers are asked to bring reflective clothing, and garbage bags will be provided. Vehicles that can transport trash to the Greenwood/Woodstock transfer station are also sought.

The town aims to have the public areas cleaned up prior to the Bicentennial June 20 and 21. Areas targeted are the ball field, roadways and the green space by the Post Office.

BUCKFIELD — A casserole supper will take place from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Saturday, May 2, at the Masonic Hall.

Grange to hold Hee-Haw show

Benefit for Meals on Wheels to be held in Locke Mills

LOCKE MILLS – The Shadagee Ramblers will hold a benefit for the Meals On Wheels nutrition program of SeniorsPlus from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday, May 3, American Legion Hall, 595 Gore Road, Locke Mills.

The event will include live music, raffle gift items, a50/50 raffle and refreshments. Admission is $8 per person in advance or $10 per person at the door; children younger than 12 are free. Tickets are available through SeniorsPlus and at selected area stores including Books n Things in Norway.

Deering to hold Sunday Community breakfasts

PARIS — Deering Memorial United Methodist Church will host free community breakfasts from 8 to 9 a.m. each Sunday.

The menu changes weekly with some of the most popular items being baked stuffed French toast, homemade cinnamon rolls, egg casseroles, home fries and pancakes. There is always cereal, toast, coffee, juice and fruit.

Organizers welcome help or donations of breakfast supplies. A free-will offering is available for anyone wishing to donate toward the cost of the breakfast.

The church is at Main and Church streets. Parking is available behind the library.
