STRONG — Selectmen on Tuesday reviewed potential savings from switching from Maine Municipal Association’s health insurance program to Maine Community Health Options.
The current plan for four employees costs $3,774 per month, or $45,295 per year.
The MCHO municipal plan would cost $2,361 per month, or $28,343 per year, a savings of $16,952, Selectman Milt Baston said.
If the board opted for life insurance and long- and short-term disability insurance, the additional cost would be $3,037 per year. The long- and short-term disability plans would pay 60 percent of the employee’s salary.
Primary care visits under the new plan would require a $20 co-pay, while the current plan requires a $10 co-pay.
Employees also would pay a $250 deductible, compared to no deductible through MMA, so the total out-of-pocket expenses for an individual would be $1,250, compared to $1,000 through MMA.
Selectmen agreed they needed to have more questions answered before making the change.
John Evans, a representative of the Sandy River Riders ATV Club, told selectmen that members offered to do a roadside cleanup over the next two weeks. He said he hoped to hear from others in the community who would be willing to help.
Selectmen also looked at ways to fund repairs for the four signs at the entrances to the town.
They plan to review options to fund the scholarships given annually to graduating seniors at Mt. Abram High School.
