OXFORD — Donna Landry of Gymnastics Plus, at 5 Park Road, will retire after coaching gymnastics in the Oxford Hills area for 35 years. At the end of June, she will be turning the business over to one of her former team gymnasts, Melody Gammon. The name will then change to Oxford Hills Gymnastics.

Gammon will take over June 29. She began her gymnastics career at the age of 9 in the after-school program Landry taught at Guy E. Rowe Elementary School. Gammon is a 2000 graduate of Oxford Hills Comprehensive High School.

Since returning to her native Maine, Gammon competed Xcel gold in the USAG league and has qualified as a member of the Maine State Team to the Region VI Championships to be held in Shrewsbury, Mass., at the end of May. She has been coaching at Maine Academy of Gymnastics in Westbrook since her return to her home state.

Gammon said she is looking forward to bringing back a competitive gymnastics team to the area and will hold tryouts for that in June. The team will compete in Xcel in the USAG league. She plans to keep the class structure similar to that of Gymnastics Plus, but with some changes.
