Joanne Gravelin will open her exhibit, “Paradise Wasted,” at 5 p.m. Friday, July 3, at the Denmark Arts Center, 50 West Main St. Hors-d’oeuvres and wine will be served at the free event. An intense saturation of color floods Gravelin’s work. Flamingo pink palm-trees, golden sands and overturned lawn chairs riddle her work, creating a torpid fantasia that owes an equal debt to the palette and subjects of David Hockney, and the impassioned rhetoric of Salvador Dali. Gravelin will be on hand to discuss her work. Gravelin will be in residence from July 27 to 31, during which time she will maintain open studio hours and teach a week-long art camp for kids on the fine art of printmaking.
