1924 – 2015
FARMINGTON — Dorinne Etta Algar Scribner, 91, of Eustis, passed away on Sunday, Nov. 22, at Franklin Memorial Hospital in Farmington.
She was born Aug. 8, 1924, in Randolph, Vt., the daughter of Curtis Leon Alger and Donna Gardner Alger. In 1942 she graduated Valedictorian of West Lebanon High School in N.H.
She had a love for music, and at fourteen traveled to Boston by train two times a week for xylophone, marimba and drum lessons. She graduated from the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston with a Bachelor of Music degree concentrating in school music. She played in the NEC orchestra and became a life member of Alpha Chi Omega. After graduation she moved to Rangeley to teach K-12 music and organized a school band. Through the years, she taught in Stratton, gave music lessons, and worked in Scribner’s Hardware Store or laundry.
While playing in the “Harmony Five Band”, Dorinne met her husband of 62 years, Emery Leon Scribner Jr. They raised three children and enjoyed socializing and spending time together. They were charter members of the Rangeley Congregational Church, where she was organist and involved in the Women’s Circle. Whenever possible, she played bridge or cards, went to a play, or read a book. In the late 70s they moved to Labelle, Fla., spending winters there and coming back to Rangeley in the summer. She belonged to the Rangeley PTA, was president of the Garden Club, pianist for the Somerset Chapter Order of the Eastern Star, member of the American Legion Auxiliary and Masonettes, and enjoyed being a Cub Scout leader. In Labelle, she volunteered at the Baron Library, was a member of the Labelle Chapter Order of the Eastern Star, and the Women’s Club. In 2011, she moved to Leeds. She was a member of the Monmouth Golden Years Group and especially enjoyed playing bridge and activities at The Meadows in Greene. She recently moved to Eustis where she attended senior school lunch days and Ladies Lunch.
Her favorite sayings were, “all things happen for a reason,” “delicious,” and “‘til we meet again.”
The family would like to thank all who assisted in ensuring her social activities were so enjoyable.
She is survived by two daughters, Donna and husband, Eric, Daphne and fiance, Roger; four grandchildren, Timothy and partner, Trisha, Robyn and partner, Josh, Polly and husband, Randy, and Odias II and wife, Laurie; her brother, Forrest and wife, Judy; her sister-in-law, Ruth Repucci; and several great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
