PORTLAND (AP) — A group of hardy souls is going to get a head start on the traditional New Year’s plunge.
The Natural Resources Council says more than 200 people are expected to participate in the New Year’s Eve Polar Bear Dip n’ Dash at Portland’s East End Beach.
There will be more polar dips on New Year’s Day but Thursday’s event is a fundraiser for the Natural Resources Council of Maine.
Spokeswoman Judy Berk says participants range from 8 to 76 years old. She says the event is expected to raise more than $25,000.
