WINTHROP – A pair of Monmouth men were taken to a Lewiston hospital Wednesday afternoon following a three-vehicle pileup on Route 202.

Police said none of the injuries appeared to be life-threatening, but traffic was slowed to a crawl after the 3:45 p.m. wreck near Cross Road.

Police said Kent Poole of Monmouth was headed east on Route 202 and preparing to turn onto Cross Road when his Volkswagen was rear-ended by a Dodge Dart driven by Allison Thomas, of Waterville.

Police said the impact forced Poole’s car over the center line where it was struck by a westbound box truck driven by Kerry Sherman of Winthrop.

Poole and a passenger in his car were taken to Central Maine Medical Center where they were still being evaluated Wednesday night.

Winthrop police briefly shut down a section of Route 202 as emergency crews responded. The crash remained under investigation later Wednesday.
