LEWISTON — A 54-year-old Pine Street woman died Friday afternoon when she fell from a third-floor balcony outside her home.
Police said it appeared Jocelyn Healey had been standing on a small ladder when she fell over the side.
“She was trying to hang something and lost her balance,” said Lewiston police Lt. Danny LaChance. “She fell three stories.”
Investigators said Healey was reported down on the ground and injured at about 1:30 p.m. Fire and rescue crews attempted lifesaving measures, but the woman was pronounced dead shortly after they arrived.
Police were continuing to investigate the fall Friday night. LaChance said there was no sign of foul play.
“It was an unfortunate accident,” he said.
The apartment house where the fall occurred is across from Ward’s Neighborhood Market, formerly Bourque’s, between Bradley and Jefferson streets.
A witness said Healey fell in an area between two apartment houses.
