NORWAY — Selectmen agreed Thursday night to support Police Chief Rob Federico’s statement that Norway would not provide mutual aid to Paris at certain times if that town contracts police services with the Oxford County Sheriff’s Office.

Federico said only one patrol officer is on duty in Norway during the early-morning hours, and he would not be willing to jeopardize the protection of Norway to go to Paris if there were no officer on duty there.

Paris voters will decide on police coverage June 14.

Also Thursday, selectmen voted to extend a 200-foot buffer to prevent manure spreading at Lakeview Cemetery after a neighbor complained about the smell. Steve Siskowitz said the manure is running onto his property.

Selectmen approved the $4.7 million budget that goes to voters at the annual town meeting in June.
