LEWISTON — The Great Falls Forum will feature Holly Lasagna and Chip Morrison of the Lewiston-Auburn Joint Charter Commission on Thursday, May 19.
The program will take place from noon to 1 p.m. at the Lewiston Public Library.
The Lewiston-Auburn Joint Charter Commission was established in 2014 when residents elected representatives to explore the possibility of combining their cities into one municipality. Since then, commission members have invested hundreds of hours of work and are in the final stages of the process.
Recent developments include completion of a draft joint charter and hiring a consultant team from CGR in New York state, a leading national organization that works with cities nationwide to provide innovative solutions to complex issues. The CGR staff is working with the commission to help develop details for the final proposal.
Lasagna and Morrison will discuss the next steps for the process, which include formation of work groups to consider options for how things might be run if the two cities become one. Once the final product is presented to the public for evaluation, a vote on the proposal will be scheduled in both cities, perhaps in the next year.
Lasagna is vice chairman of the commission and works with Healthy Androscoggin as its REACH program manager. Morrison, the former CEO of the local chamber of commerce, is a business development officer at Androscoggin Bank.
Forum events are free and no reservations are required. Attendees may bring a bag lunch; coffee, tea and bottled water will be available on site.
The Great Falls Forum is co-sponsored by Bates College, Lewiston Public Library and the Sun Journal.
The library is at 200 Lisbon St. at the corner of Pine Street.
