MONMOUTH (AP) — The family of a Maine construction worker killed in 2014 when he was crushed by a load of steel rebar has filed suit against Belgrade-based Gagne Concrete Blocks, Inc.
The Kennebec Journal reported (http://bit.ly/1Tj3QQ0 ) the plaintiffs are seeking punitive and compensatory damages for the May 2014 death of 30-year-old Philip Coward at the site of Mid-Maine Foundations, Inc. on Howard Road in Monmouth.
Police Chief Kevin Mulherin says Coward was helping to unload a delivery from Gagne when the rebar fell off a forklift and crushed him.
The lawsuit, filed in Kennebec County Superior Court, accuses the construction firm of negligence, wrongful death and negligent infliction of emotional distress.
An attorney representing Gagne denied the allegations in the suit, saying an accident “doesn’t equate to legal responsibility.”
