PARIS — A series of SAD 17 budget meetings and votes will begin with a hearing on a $1.23 million bond at 6 p.m. Monday, June 6, at Oxford Hills Comprehensive High School.
On Thursday, June 9, residents will discuss and vote on a proposed $39.01 million budget at 7 p.m. at the high school. The amount approved will go to a referendum in the eight district towns Tuesday, June 14.
The $1.23 million bond, which will be on the June 14 ballot, is to pay for the following projects:
• $516,250 to replace or repair roofs on Rowe School in Norway, Harrison and Oxford elementary schools, Oxford Hills Middle School in Paris, Waterford Elementary School, Legion Memorial School in West Paris, Oxford Annex and Rowe Annex;
• $193,160 for paving at the high school, Agnes Gray School in West Paris, Harrison and Oxford elementary schools, and districtwide paving and parking lot work;
• $310,000 to replace bleachers at the football field at the Don Gouin Athletic Complex in Paris;
• $105,000 to resurface the track at Gouin Complex and the tennis court at the high school; and
• $33,468 for a tractor with mower and snowblower.
The bond includes $20,000 for engineering and a 5 percent contingency of $56,220.50.
The 2016-17 budget is $717,985, or 1.87 percent, more than the $38.29 million for this fiscal year, which ends June 30.
The budget addresses overcrowding at Oxford Elementary School by creating a fifth-grade teaching position at Otisfield Community School and having the fourth-grade class remain at Otisfield next year. The move would return the Otisfield school to grades kindergarten to six.
The budget includes $75,000 for three educational technicians at West Paris, Hebron and Harrison elementary schools, which do not have full-time principals, and $21,750 for a pilot program to use Chromebook computers at Otisfield Community Community School.
The 19 articles include:
• $15.01 million, regular instruction;
• $5.41 million, special education;
• $3.13 million, career and technical education;
• $730,657, other instruction;
• $811,617, system administration;
• $2.2 million, school administration;
• $3 million, student and staff support;
• $2.45 million, buses and transportation;
• $4.17 million, facilities maintenance;
• $1.84 million, debt service and other commitments;
• $474,482, adult education;
• $3.76 million, Vocational Region 11;
• $578,001 additional local funds raised; and
• $100,000 transferred from facilities and maintenance account to school capital reserve fund and give directors authority to spend it by majority vote.

• Harrison, $3.61 million, 6.35 percent decrease
• Hebron, $727,800, 4.6 percent increase
• Norway, $3.7 million, 3.02 percent increase
• Otisfield, $2.36 million, 1.99 percent increase
• Oxford, $3.68 million, 4.36 percent increase
• Paris, $2.95 million, 3.03 percent increase
• Waterford, $2 million, 0.47 percent increase
• West Paris, $834,996, 4.69 percent increase
