AUGUSTA — The Maine Trial Lawyers Association has announced its new slate of officers, including Michael T. Bigos of Auburn and Michael Welch of Lewiston.

The officers were elected to one-year terms at the annual meeting in Freeport this spring.

Bigos, who is treasurer, is a member of the firm of Berman & Simmons in Lewiston, where he has practiced since 2004. He is one of Maine’s governors to the American Association for Justice. He has served as a judicial selection panelist for Federal District and First Circuit Court of Appeals Judges in 2011 and 2013. He also has served as a commissioner for the Maine Commission on Governmental Ethics and Elections Practices. He is a volunteer for the Lawyers in Libraries program.

Welch, past president, is a partner with the personal injury firm of Hardy Wolf and Downing, PA, and has been trying cases in state and federal courts in Maine for more than 30 years. He also maintains a practice representing injured workers, especially where third-party negligence is involved. In addition, he had been involved in numerous appellate cases before the Maine Supreme Judicial Court that have impacted the law in insurance coverage issues on behalf of his clients and against insurance companies.
