1958 – 2016

AUBURN — John M. Joyce, Ph.D., 58, of 40 Clubhouse Lane, Auburn, died unexpectedly at his residence Wednesday, May 25.

Born in Lewiston on April 21, 1958, he was the son of Thomas and Helen Ferguson Joyce. Educated in local schools, he was a graduate of Lewiston High School, Class of ’76. He received a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Maine in Orono, and later earned a master’s degree, and finally a doctorate in environmental engineering from Florida State University.

On May 5, 1990, he married the former Darlene Plummer. They moved frequently for work, including years in Biddeford and Winston-Salem, N.C.  A member of the former St. Patrick’s Parish while a resident of Lewiston, he also belonged to several professional engineering societies.

Besides his loving wife, Darlene, of Myrtle Beach, S.C., he is survived by two sisters, Mary and husband, Raymond Deschenes, Margaret Joyce, and brother-in-law, Paul Lacombe, all of Lewiston.

Besides his parents, he was predeceased by a sister, Claire Lacombe.
