DIXFIELD — The Regional School Unit 10 board reluctantly accepted the
resignation of Superintendent Craig King on Monday.
King, who has led the district for four years, will leave Aug. 15 to assume the superintendency of the Gray-New Gloucester district.
“You will be sadly missed,” board Chairman Bruce Ross said. “They’ll be
 tough shoes to fill.”
The board set a special meeting for 7 p.m. Wednesday, June 29, at the
Central Office to begin discussions about filling the position.
In other business, the board unanimously approved a three-year contract for teachers that provides a 2 percent salary increase each year and a 1 percent hike in health care premiums paid by teachers each year.
King said the agreement was a “win-win” for the district and the Western Foothills Education Association.
The contract runs until July 2019.
Two public hearings are scheduled on withdrawal efforts by several of the district’s 12 towns. They are:
* July 7 at 6:30 p.m. on the withdrawal proposal from Canton, Carthage, Dixfield and Peru at Dirigo Elementary School in Peru.
* July 14 at 6:30 p.m. on a withdrawal agreement for Byron at the Old Byron Schoolhouse.
The next regular board meeting is at 6:30 p.m. July 25 in the community room of Dirigo High School.
