PORTLAND, Maine (AP) — The owners of 3,630 Volkswagens in Maine are set to receive a payout from the German auto manufacturer’s record $14.7 billion settlement with states and consumers.

The Portland Press Herald reports the settlement ends a lawsuit filed over Volkswagen’s rigging of emissions tests on diesel cars by outfitting the vehicles with illegal software that cheats the test.

Volkswagen officials said owners of affected vehicles will have the opportunity to sell back their cars at their value as of last September, when the company admitted to the wrongdoing. Owners may also opt to have their cars fixed at Volkswagen’s expense.

Affected owners will also receive between $5,000 and $10,000 as compensation.

A federal judge is expected to approve the settlement in late July. Volkswagen still faces possible criminal charges.
