LEWISTON — Diane Champoux of the Champoux Insurance Group, 416 Sabattus St., has been included on Insurance Business America magazine’s Elite Women list. The list recognizes the women changing the face of the American insurance industry.
Insurance Business America asked readers and top insurance companies for their nominations and narrowed it down to 144 individuals whose astounding personal and professional achievements have earned them a place among the industry’s best.
The industry has long been dominated by men; however, according to the figures from the Bureau of Labor Statistics, women now hold 61 percent of the jobs in the insurance field. Yet women are still not equally represented at all levels of the corporate ladder.
“Despite their growing presence among industry employees, according to 2011 BLS data, women only account for 6 percent of top executive positions and just over 12 percent of board seats in insurance,” said Heather Turner, writer at Insurance Business America. “But the Elite Women list proves that those statistics may soon be in the past. These 144 women have risen to the highest positions in the insurance industry and now they are making sure others join them.”
