KINGFIELD — Kingfield Festival Days will offer the town an opportunity to showcase its 200 years of history.
The bicentennial-themed festival will begin Thursday with events and activities through Sunday.
Museums and historic locations will be open free of charge. Several locations will offer breakfast, lunch, dinner and finger foods throughout the weekend.
An exhibit at the Herbert Grand Hotel will allow participants to bring Kingfield artifacts, including postcards, photos, local manufacturing memorabilia and fabric handiwork from noon to 8 p.m. Thursday. Visitors can see the entries throughout the weekend, and judges will award prizes for the categories.
Civil War re-enactors will be camped at the Snow Wanderers Sled Shed on Route 27 and will open for the weekend on Saturday morning. They will host a re-enactment of a battle at 2 p.m. They will present a Kingfield Rebellion of 1863 re-enactment at 10 a.m. Sunday in front of the Post Office on Depot Street.
Each year, Kingfield Days features dozens of artists, musicians and friendly competitions and children’s games. This year, many activities have been organized around the historic theme, including memorabilia.
The Saturday noon parade theme is “Kingfield Characters, Past and Present.”
Those looking for some exercise can sign up for the fifth annual Kingfield Days 5k run/walk and a kids’ 1-mile race Sunday morning. Registration is at Jordan’s Lumber parking lot on Main Street.
The race is on the West Kingfield Road, and walkers will leave at 7:55 a.m. Runners leave at 8:20 a.m., and kids will leave at 9 a.m.
