HARTFORD — A proposed new road ordinance that has been the subject of lengthy discussion the past few months has been left off the agenda for the special town meeting on Aug. 25.
The ordinance went to selectmen on July 7 and contained items the board thought needed some work.
The Road Committee returned at the July 21 meeting looking for guidance from selectmen on what specific items they wanted to be addressed.
The selectmen’s biggest concerns were who would pay for upgrades to a road if that road met the minimum number of five residences to be considered a public road and enforcement actions for those that broke ordinance guidelines.
After 30 minutes of discussion, Road Committee member Leslie Boness suggested to the board that selectmen and the Road Committee could hold a workshop to work on a final draft of the ordinance together.
Committee member Richard Dyer echoed Boness’ sentiment and said the ordinance should be left off the special town meeting agenda to make sure it is right.
The selectmen agreed and set the special town meeting for 5 p.m. Aug. 25 at the Town Hall.
In other news, the board:
• Heard from Mia Purcell of the Western Maine Economic Development Council about resources that included business financing and help in finding business properties for residents who have or are looking to start a business;
• Voted, with Budget Committee approval, to use $681 from last year’s contingency fund to cover an overage in the calcium account;
• Heard from Regional School Unit 10 board member Richard Dyer that the district had hired Michael Cormier as interim superintendent;
• Asked for a bid committee to be formed consisting of one selectmen, the road commissioner and one member of the Road Committee; and
• Asked for the public to consider for future discussion where a standard building code should be used in town.
