CASCO — Loon Echo Land Trust’s Acoustic Sunset Concerts Series on top of Hacker’s Hill Preserve on Quaker Ridge Road in Casco, returns Aug. 17 for the fifth season. This month’s concert will feature the songs and instrumentation of folk favorites, Dennis O’neil and Davey Armstrong.
The duo’s foot stompin’ good time music is sure to have the audience clapping and singing along. In addition to vocal talents, O’neil plays guitar with effects that range from acoustic guitar, to piano, to banjo. Armstrong, a newly-minted American citizen hailing from Scotland, is a multi-instrumentalist playing guitar, banjo, bagpipes, whistles, harmonica and bass pedals, frequently at the same time. The duo has released several CDs and was recently commissioned to write and record a song celebrating the Town of Conway’s 250th anniversary. Expanding on their Celtic roots, their music covers the range traditional Irish and Scottish folk music to contemporary American singer/songwriters.
The open, grassy fields of this beautiful land allow for comfortable seating with extraordinary sunset views of the Lakes Region and White Mountains acting as a backdrop to for the performers. Bring a picnic dinner, a lawn chair or blanket and soak up the splendor of the sunset while listening to the concert. The concert will run from 6 to 8 p.m. Admission is a suggested donation of $10 for adults and $5 per child, to benefit the ongoing stewardship efforts of Hacker’s Hill.
