The Governor Longley School in Lewiston is featured in a new book titled “Kindle the Spark: An Action Guide for Schools Committed to the Success of Every Child.” The guidebook describes some of the resources principal Carroll Scribner sought out to improve early reading instruction. It also tells about the school’s approach to other changes, including new diagnostic tools, grouping children across grades for reading instruction, and special reading times when everyone in the school stops and reads. Written for parents and other community leaders, as, well as educators, “Kindle the Spark” tells what Governor Longley and other schools learned as they tried new ways to enable more students to succeed.
