AUBURN — St. Dominic Academy secured the Western Maine Conference championship by blanking Wells, 4-0, in field hockey action Wednesday afternoon.
Caroline Johnson opened the scoring with a goal 10 minutes into the first half, assisted by Kylie Leavitt and Paige Cote. Johnson also had an assist in the game. Cote knocked in the next goal, giving the Saints (11-2-1) a 2-0 halftime lead.
Leavitt scored on Hannah Trottier-Braun’s second assist of the game. Trottier-Braun finished out the scoring.
St. Dom’s outshot Wells 18-0 in the victory. Mary Alissa Hebden made 14 saves in net for the Warriors (3-10-1).
Yarmouth 4, Gray-New Gloucester 0
GRAY — Ally MacLeod netted two goals to lead Yarmouth to a 4-0 field hockey win over Gray-New Gloucester on Wednesday.
Abby McDowell and Emilie Martin also scored for the Clippers (10-4).
Patriots (0-13) goalkeeper Alicia Credit made 11 stops. Yarmouth’s Cate Ralph finished with two.
Girls’ soccer
Boothbay 4, Lisbon 0
BOOTHBAY— Hanna Cola’s two first-half goals paced Boothbay in its 4-0 girls’ soccer win over Lisbon on Wednesday.
Cola scored 11 minutes into the game and added another at the 31-minute mark to give the Seahawks a 2-0 lead. Reagan Cola added a goal with seven minutes remaining in the first half to make it 3-0. Angie Perkins concluded the scoring with a goal two minutes after halftime.
Ali Sult made eight saves for Lisbon (6-4-4), while Jackie McLoon stopped 12 for Boothbay (4-10-0).
College field hockey
Bates 3, Babson 2, OT
BABSON PARK, Mass. — Taylor Lough scored early in overtime to lift the Bates College field hockey team to a 3-2 win over No. 8 nationally ranked Babson on Wednesday.
Bates took a 1-0 lead in the 10th minute on a goal by Sydney Beres.
The Beavers scored the next two goals, Victoria Spofford in the 21st minute and Elise Towers in the 41st, to take a 2-1 lead.
The Bobcats tied the game 17 minutes later when Jessie Moriarty connected with Adah Linquist for a goal.
That sent the game to overtime, and two minutes in, Lough tallied the game-winner.
Bates goalkeepers Adelae Durand and Alyssa Souza combined to make seven saves.
College soccer
Bates 2, Thomas 1
WATERVILLE — Bates College earned an important 2-1 win over Thomas College Wednesday in men’s soccer action.
The Terriers got on the board late in the first half at the 41st minute as Josh Emard received a through ball from Willie Clemons and tucked a shot just inside the right post.
The Bobcats evened the scoring in the 54th minute as Terriers keeper Drew Martin slid out to steal the ball. The ball deflected off Martin to Merchant who fired into the empty net for a 1-1 game. In the 87th minute, Merchant was the hero for Bates, scoring the winning goal on a hard shot into the top corner.
