TURNER — Selectmen on Monday were given a copy of an email from Mike Delois of the Maine Department of Transportation describing adjustments to traffic signals in front of the Hannaford supermarket on Route 4.
Delois said he made five changes to the sequencing of the lights at Snell Hill Road and Route 4 on Oct. 4, adjusting the minimum and maximum time a light stays green.
The lights were adjusted at the request of town officials, after hearing from frustrated commuters. The changes should help the flow of traffic and eliminate long waits.
In other business:
* The board decided more information is needed before acting on the issue of motor vehicle sales sites in town. The topic has been under scrutiny for about a year, especially in regard to used car lots and annexes.
Board members made plans to attend the next Planning Board meeting Nov. 2 to discuss the matter. At issue are possible new zoning restrictions, as well as paving guidelines and a rule against outdoor storage of vehicles.
* Selectmen reviewed documents from the Oct. 5 and 12 Androscoggin County Budget Committee meetings, which Selectman Kevin Nichols attended.
The clock that sits atop the county building will not be repaired because there is no money for the project, Nichols said.
Regarding county legal expenses, he suggested there may be less expensive alternatives for representation than the $300 per hour the county is charged.
Nichols said that “overall the budget is looking good,” and there has been a lot of progress.
* Selectmen again discussed the problem of dead tree branches hanging over a section of Skillings Corner Road along the stonewall. They voted unanimously to either pay the estimated $760 to trim the trees or reimburse the owners $760 if they prefer to have the trees removed.
Ralph Caldwell seconded the motion with the stipulation that the work be completed by Nov. 15.
* Highway Department Director Leland Searles assured the board that paving will resume on Plains Road as soon as the road grader engine is repaired.
Searles said the department is readying all of the trucks for winter.
