LEWISTON – More than 2,000 homes and business went dark early Wednesday night after a blown circuit knocked out power to a busy section of the city.
Central Maine Power officials reported that about 2,300 customers lost power at about 5 p.m. in several neighborhoods between Webster and Lisbon streets when a downed line took out a circuit.
CMP repaired lines in the area of Lisbon and St. Croix streets and shortly before 7 p.m., restored power to all of those who had lost it.
Several Lisbon Street businesses, including gas stations, stores and donut shops, locked their doors and closed for business while waiting for power to return.
Police said the outage didn’t cause big problems, but there were traffic snarls along Webster Street and at several intersections as street and traffic lights also went dark.
The outages effected all of Webster and side streets between Alfred Plourde Parkway and Farwell Street. Lisbon Street was likewise dark between the turnpike and St. Croix Street.
At about 6:45 p.m., the lights flicked on again, illuminating stretches of Webster and Lisbon streets that had previously been in darkness. The street lights flickered on a few minutes later and the traffic lights began working again.
