LEWISTON — A man and woman accused earlier in the week of possessing and trafficking heroin made initial appearances Wednesday in 8th District Court.

Mandy Chouinard, 28, was ordered held on $2,000 cash bail after she was charged Monday with possession of heroin, endangering the welfare of a child and violating probation.

She was also ordered to refrain from having contact with Joshua Stevens and Steven Webster, who were also charged in the bust at 1252 Hotel Road.

Chouinard’s 5-year-old child, who drug officials said was in the home when police arrived, was placed in the care of the Department of Health and Human Services.

As part of her bail conditions, Chouinard was also ordered to stay away from a home on North River Road in Greene without the consent of the DHHS.

Stevens, 29, charged with aggravated drug trafficking, possession of heroin, possession of cocaine, endangering the welfare of a child and illegal possession of a firearm, was ordered held on $5,000 cash bail.

He was also prohibited from having contact with Webster, Chouinard and Chouinard’s daughter and to stay away from the home on North River Road in Greene without consent.

Webster, 39, was charged with possession of heroin. He was bailed from the Androscoggin County Jail in Auburn on Tuesday afternoon and did not make a court appearance Wednesday.

Police and drug agents went to Webster’s home on Hotel Road on Monday in search of Chouinard, investigators said, who was wanted for violating terms of probation.

A search of the home by drug agents and local police turned up 60 grams of heroin — or 600 doses — and 6.6 grams of cocaine, totaling about $12,000 in value. Police said they also found electronic scales and an AR-15 rifle at the home.

The suspects are expected to next appear in court April 21.
