PORTLAND, Maine (AP) — Portland’s Sudanese community drew support at a downtown rally.

Thursday night’s gathering drew about 200 people to Monument Square. It was organized by the Sudanese Community Association of Maine and a coalition of more than 20 organizations, including the Maine Council of Churches and the Center for African Heritage, according to the Portland Press Herald.

Sarah Espicho, secretary for the Sudanese Community Association, said the fatal police shooting of a Sudanese man created tension still lingering a month later.
