FARMINGTON — A Franklin County justice found a Massachusetts man guilty of leaving the scene of an accident that killed one man and injured a woman and her daughter in separate vehicles after more than a one ton of lumber fell off his truck on Route 27 in January of 2008. Some of the beams that fell went into a car, killing driver Stephen McKenney, 55 of New Portland, and struck the front of another car, which was following McKenney’s on the road. The driver of the other car, Katherine Jones of Camden and her daughter, received minor injuries.

Domingos Medeiros, 49, of Fall River, faces up to five years in prison on the charge. Sentencing will be held in June.
Medeiros said in February during a bench trial in front of Michaela Murphy that he couldn’t explain how he didn’t know he’d lost a load of 17-foot beams from a trailer he was hauling back to Massachusetts from a job site in Kingfield.
