Four units were damaged by fire Tuesday evening at Rock Pond Condos at Saddleback in Rangeley. Sixteen towns helped fight the fire and cover the town.

SANDY RIVER PLANTATION — Two condominiums at Rock Pond Condominiums were destroyed Tuesday at Saddleback Mountain and two others were saved, according to Rangeley Fire Rescue Chief Tim Pellerin’s  post on Facebook.

It is estimated that the loss is more than $800,000.

The fire was reported at 4:06 p.m.

One condo was fully involved with heavy extension of fire to a second condo and fire extended to two others, Pellerin wrote. 

No injuries were reported, according to Pellerin. 

A total of 16 towns and nine tankers hauling water responded to the fire site and to cover the town.  

Representatives of other fire departments posted on Facebook pages that they were ready to respond, if needed, including Andover and Livermore Falls. 

A couple fire trucks froze and the town’s mechanic and Paul and Mike Koob helped unfreeze them.

Pellerin also credited several other citizens for helping out.

“A huge thank you to all the mutual aid companies who traveled long distances to assist us in controlling this fast moving fire,” Pellerin wrote. “Great job to team Rangeley on a tough  initial battle, to NorthStar EMS (ambulance), Franklin County (Sheriff’s Office), Rangeley (Police Department), and Franklin County Communications (dispatchers) for all your help. A special thanks to Farmington Fire (Rescue Department) for their help with command and interior operations.” Firefighters fought inclement weather and initially a limited water supply.

A condo at Saddleback Mountain in Rangeley is consumed by fire Tuesday night. According to a Franklin County Sheriff’s Office dispatcher, the fire destroyed one unit and firefighters from multiple towns were trying to stop it from spreading to others up the hill.
