MONMOUTH — The Monmouth Lions Club Speak-Out 2017 was held March 13 at the United Church of Monmouth’s Packard Activity Center.
The winners, all Monmouth Academy Students, were:
• Beua Bero, for the speech “Alzheimer’s Awareness,” placed first and received $100 and a trophy;
• Emmeline Willey, for “Middle School Crush,” placed second and received $75 and trophy; and
• Ed Zuis, for “The Drug Epidemic,” placed third and received $50 and a trophy.
After each speech, contents were asked questions by Lions Curt Lunt and Bill Mann. Speeches were evaluated in three categories, delivery, material and response to the question. Judges were Lions, Amanda Kinsey, Joe Stumpf and Robert Cyr Jr.
Monmouth Academy coaches Scott and Cathy Foyt were given a 2017 Lions Club centennial dinner mug and recognized for their dedication.
