MONMOUTH — Hilda Mary Jones, 82, a resident of Monmouth, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 7, at her home, with her loving family by her side. She was born April 5, 1935, in Brooksville, the daughter of Astbury Burgess Gray and Susan Hattie (Fowler) Gray. She was educated in the Monmouth schools and graduated from Monmouth Academy, Class of 1953.
On Oct. 5, 1953, in Monmouth, she married Harold W. Jones Jr. and they spent 64 beautiful years together. Hilda was a homemaker, devoted wife and loving mother who gave unselfishly to others and contributed to several charities throughout her life. She was a former member of the St. Francis Church in Winthrop. Hilda was an avid Red Sox fan. She enjoyed playing Scrabble and doing crossword puzzles. Hilda loved cooking and she made the best bread. She was a music lover, especially country music. Hilda loved spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She is survived by her husband, Harold Jones Jr., of Monmouth; her three sons: Harold Jones III and his wife, Jeannine, of Monmouth; Lee Jones and his wife, Beth, of Greene; and James Jones and his wife, Michele, of Monmouth; her two daughters: Susan McDonald and her husband, Tim, of Monmouth, and Olivia Gauthier and her husband, Tom, of Lewiston; 13 grandchildren: Jessie Light and her husband, David; Missy Hamel and her husband, Nick; Kristie, Hailee, Josh and Sophie Jones; Jason McDonald; Mark McDonald and his wife, Dagny; Brian McDonald and his wife, Elizabeth; Ashley McDonald and her husband, Steve Tsoukalas; Keith, Chad and Jessica Gauthier; six great-grandchildren: Devon, William, Andrew, Theodore, Abigail and Demarese; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents.
The family would like to thank the nurses and CNAs at Androscoggin Home Care and Hospice for providing excellent care and support, especially Molly, Lisa and Keena.
