Local students graduate MSSM

LIMESTONE — The Maine School of Science and Mathematics graduated 45 students on May 26.

Local graduates include: Brooke Bolduc of Livermore; Wyatt Giroux, Wales; Riley Hagerstrom, Strong; Grace Kurtz, Raymond; Fariel LaMountain, Brownfield; Samuel Murray, Freeport; and Aidan Sites, Leeds.

WorkReady Job Skills Training

MEXICO — Region 9 Adult Education is accepting applications for WorkReady, a 60-hour course that helps individuals become successful employees, will teach students successful techniques for applying for a job, create a resume, get an interview and keep a job. They’ll learn how their strength can help an employer and participate in interviews with local businesses to learn how to improve job searching skills.

Region 9 will be accept for the state-wide recognized certification until July 2. Interviews will be held the week of July 9, with the class starting July 17.

Classes will run from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays through Aug. 16.

Independence Eve fireworks planned

FARMINGTON — The Farmington skyline will sparkle Tuesday, July 3, as fireworks light up Independence Eve, thanks to a few local businesses.

The fireworks show will commence at dusk, approximately 9 p.m., over Prescott Field off Front Street. Prior to the evening display, there will be horse-drawn wagon rides and music on the field, featuring the Court Jesters.

The show is free but spectators are urged to be respectful of property while viewing. While there is plenty of field space adjacent to the fields for a lawn chair or blanket, viewers are asked to not stand or sit on the UMF playing fields.

Hot dogs for heat

FARMINGTON — Henderson Memorial Baptist Church will serve hot dogs after the Fourth of July Farmington parade on Wednesday, July 4, on the church’s front lawn on the corner of Main and Academy streets.

The hot dogs will be free, but the church will accept donations to benefit the Franklin County ECUmenical HEATing Fund that helps keep neighbors warm in the winter time.

Last winter, ECU HEAT provided 50-gallon deliveries (or equivalent in solid fuel) to 286 homes throughout Franklin County, warming 575 people.

Any low-income resident may apply for a “50 for $50” fuel delivery through Western Maine Community Action in Wilton. Applications are available through September, although deliveries are made between Nov. 1 and March 31, 2019. 

Clearwater Lake Assoc. annual meeting

INDUSTRY — The Clearwater Lake Association will hold its annual meeting on Sunday, July 8, at the Industry Town Hall.

A potluck dinner will begin at noon, and the meeting will follow. Those attending should bring a dinner dish to share with the members. All members and interested persons may attend. Beverages, including water and coffee, will be provided.
