Legion plans dance, supper

LOCKE MILLS — Shadagee Ramblers will perform Tuesday, July 10, at the Legion hall.

Post No. 68, American Legion, will have a baked bean and strawberry shortcake supper and dance. Doors will open at 4 p.m.

Cost is $8 for the supper or $5 for children younger than 12. Cost to attend the dance will be $5.

Norway Legion to meet 

NORWAY — Meetings at the Norway Legion will be held on the second Wednesday of each month at 7 p.m.

Coffee hour will be held from 9 to 10 a.m. Tuesdays with desserts. All are welcome.

Lithuanian Heritage Club to meet

RUMFORD — The Lithuanian Heritage Club will meet at noon on Wednesday, July 11, at Sam’s Italian Shop on Route 2.

Greenwood Historical Society to meet

GREENWOOD — Greenwood Historical Society will hold its monthly program at 7 p.m. Wednesday, July 11, at the Jackson Silver Post of the American Legion on the Gore Road.

A special program will be presented by James Bennett highlighting the music and musicians of Greenwood. The Shadagee Ramblers will present a set highlighting Greenwood music today.

Eating to avoid cancer class

FARMINGTON — “Does sugar feed cancer?” “Should I avoid soy?” “Should I be eating organic foods?” These are just a few of the questions being answered at a free presentation called “Healthy Eating for Cancer Survivors.”

The class will take place from 6 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, July 11, in the Bass Room at Franklin Memorial Hospital.

Participants will learn how to make healthy eating and lifestyle choices to reduce their risk of cancer recurrence and promote overall wellness as a cancer survivor.

This class is free of charge and open to all cancer survivors and their caregivers.

The program is being presented by Donna Walsh, MS, RD, LD, a board-certified specialist in oncology nutrition, affiliated with the MaineGeneral Harold Alfond Center for Cancer Care.

Peru Historical Society to meet

PERU — The Peru Historical Society will meet at 1 p.m. Thursday, July 12, at the Peru Historical Society Building for a monthly meeting.

Eagles to host Texas Hold’em 

RUMFORD — Fraternal Order of Eagles host Texas Hold’em poker tournaments on the second Thursday of each month.

Doors will open at 4 p.m. Games will start at 6 p.m. There will be a $50 buy-in with a $5 high hand as well as a 50/50 raffle. The kitchen will be open from 4 to 6 p.m.

SeniorsPlus office hours

FARMINGTON — The SeniorsPlus office will be open for scheduled appointments Wednesdays from 12:30 to 4:30 p.m.

Walk-in hours are from 12:30 to 4:30 p.m. and will be held on the second Thursday of every month.

Staff will be on hand to answer any questions or concerns about services and resources for older adults and adults with disabilities and their families. These services are free and open to the public.
