Other ways Lewiston schools are saving energy:

• Replacing windows at Pettingill, Montello and Lewiston High schools

• Replacing exterior wall at Lewiston Middle School with an energy efficient wall

• New city wide bus transportation for high school students to reduce the number of vehicles and carbon emissions outside the school

• School bus drivers have no-idling policies

• Expanded use of digital controls on heating systems, which lower the heat when the building is empty

• New boiler at Dingley administration building

• Vending machines controlled by “vending misers,” which turn off the lights in machines when no one is in the building

• Taking part in DEP survey to find out the size of carbon footprints, which involves keeping data to figure out the size of Lewiston school’s total carbon emissions (afterward, steps will be taken to measure reductions)

• Installing updated lighting at Farwell, Montello and McMahon. The “daylight harvesting systems” automatically dim when there’s enough natural light, saving 50 to 70 percent in lighting costs
