AUBURN – Police and federal agents on Tuesday were investigating a break-in at a downtown gun shop in which more than a half-dozen weapons were stolen.
Investigators said the burglary at Reid’s Guns and Cigar shop occurred either late Monday night or early Tuesday. It was believed at least six handguns were stolen and possibly a pair of assault rifles.
On Tuesday, the theft was being investigated by Auburn police detectives and agents from the Central Maine Violent Crimes Task Force. The federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives was also assisting in the probe.
Police did not say how the business was entered or release further details about the break-in while it remained under investigation.
