LEWISTON – People interested in seeing how solar electric systems are installed and learning about solar’s energy-savings benefits can do so from 11 a.m. to noon Tuesday.

Coastal Enterprises Inc. will be fitting a series of homes with solar energy systems. Tuesday’s installation will be at 32 Spring St.

CEI is installing the solar systems as part of its effort to increase consumer awareness of alternative energy sources and green building methods.

The single-family house at 32 Spring St. was produced collaboratively by CEI, city government and Lewiston Regional Technical Center students who get hands-on training through the construction project. The house will eventually be sold to a low-income family.

The solar technology will be installed by LRTC students and members of CEI’s Youthbuild program, supervised by Chris Straka of Ascendant Energy of Owl’s Head, which is providing the system. He’ll also speak on the use and benefits of solar systems.
