LEWISTON – Six local bands will play at 3 p.m. Sunday, May 23, to raise money for two nonprofits that support diversity in Maine.

The all-ages, chemical-free concert was conceived by Jen Mercier and will be sponsored by Club Hypno, a nightclub on Park Street. Admission is $5 per person.

“My friends and I were sick of hearing all the same tired stereotypes about people and thought we should do something to help,” said Mercier.

The bands are To Sleep Under Fire, Too Late the Hero, Haven’t Talked Since, Pozer, The Posters, and Short of April. Their performances will benefit the Maine SpeakOut Project and the Many and One Coalition.

The SpeakOut Project, a wellness program of Community Counseling Center, was organized in 1995 to help create a society that is inclusive and respectful of differing sexual and gender orientations by providing opportunities for dialogue.
