Boxberry Elementary School students have been learning about local food, local history and natural resources and recently visited the Nezinscot Farm in Turner. Since 1987, Gregg and Gloria Varney have expanded the dairy herd, added a farm store with a cafe and introduced sustainable, organic and biodynamic farming methods. Students ate lunch, took a tour of the farm with an apprentice from Bates College and viewed the new natural bee hives at the farm. They also visited with baby goats and calves. Students Emmett Grover, left, and Simon Whitaker, are pictured brushing one of the goats at the farm.
