Society meeting

WEST PARIS — The West Paris Historical Society will meet Monday, June 21. There will be a potluck at 6 p.m., followed by a meeting at 7 p.m. Guest speaker will be Barbara Payne, who will talk about Finnish people and West Paris. For more information about the society, call Betty Jones at 674-2507.

Finnish-American society

WEST PARIS — The Finnish-American Heritage Society of Maine will meet at 2 p.m. Sunday, June 20, at the Finnish American Heritage Center, 8 Maple St. Following a brief business meeting, the program will focus on “Turn of the Century Immigration into Maine, a comparison of various immigrant groups.”
The program is based on a 1908 state report. A coffee social will follow. The public is invited to attend.

Legion dance

SOUTH PARIS — The Jones Dance Band, playing old fashioned dance music, will be at the South Paris American Legion Hall on Church Street from 7 to 10 p.m. Saturday, June 19. The cost is $5. The lunch counter will be open.

Scholarship recipients

SOUTH PARIS — The Oxford County Education Association – Retired has announced the following recipients of the scholarships for the year 2009-10. They are April Dudley, Oxford Hills Comprehensive High School; Amanda Wiley, Telstar High School; Jennifer-Lee Campbell, Sacopee Valley High School; and Kristen MacBride, Buckfield Junior-Senior High School.
