100 years ago, 1910

A man was ordered to appear in court this morning to answer to a charge of fast driving following an accident on Lower Main Street Tuesday. He was going up Main Street when he ran into a cow owned by C. D. Austin of Poland. The cow’s leg was broken in two places and the animal had to be killed. Officer Albee saw the accident and chased the autoist who did not stop, overtaking him on Park Street. The driver returned with the officer and it is said settled for the cow.

50 years ago, 1960

A new automobile concern, Marcel Motors, has been organized and is to be located at 1155 Lisbon St.

Marcel Moore is president of the new concern with Roland G. Fortin as treasurer. They and Mrs. Theresa S. Moore, comprise the board of directors.

25 years ago 1985

A spokesman for the federal Environmental Protection Agency said Friday afternoon that the agency will be getting to work sooner than originally expected on its investigation of the Auburn ash landfill.

The agency will do a preliminary assessment of the site and take samples as part of a field inspection. Residents of the Danville area, where the landfill is located, have raised concerns that the landfill could be a source of high toxicity levels of cadmium, due to past dumping of waste from the city’s energy recovery plant.
