Bottle drive

LEWISTON — In an effort to raise funds to support the students of Lewiston’s public schools, an account has been formed at Rooper’s Bottle Redemption at the Sabattus Street, Lewiston and Minot Avenue, Auburn, locations. A donation may be made by asking that the returnable refund be applied to the Lewiston Education Fund.

The Lewiston Education Fund is a nonprofit group that was organized to fund projects that expand educational opportunities, foster creativity and enhance academic excellence in Lewiston’s public schools. For more information, contact Beth Gaudet at 795-4100 or visit www.lewistoneducationfund.org.

Dempsey center workshop

LEWISTON — The Patrick Dempsey Center for Cancer Hope and Healing at Central Maine Medical Center will offer a free workshop for cancer patients, survivors and caregivers titled “Seeking Balance.” The session will be held from 1:30 to 3 p.m. Wednesday, July 14, at CMMC, 12 High St., in conference room I.

The Rev. Don Mayberry will invite participants to take part in open conversation about ways to stand up to the unwelcome intrusion cancer presents in their lives. Some methods include the encouragement of friendships, storytelling and engaging spirits through prayer and meditation. Registration is available online or by phone. Breastfeeding support

AUBURN — Pregnant women and breastfeeding mothers are invited to the La Leche League meeting to be held at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, July 14, at 102 Bennett Ave. Babies are welcome.

This month’s discussion, “Breastfeeding: Avoiding and Overcoming Difficulties,” will focus on concerns about preparing to nurse baby at birth and adjusting to babies’ changing needs. All concerns about breastfeeding are welcome for discussion. For breastfeeding help or directions to the meeting, call the La Leche League leader at 782-6645.
