Literacy Volunteers of Bangor & Darling’s Ice Cream for a Cause are partnering for a sweet cause – to bring the love of reading, along with a sweet treat, to children and families in the local area.Over several days, the Darling’s Ice Cream for a Cause ice cream truck will be transformed into an ice cream truck and bookmobile, and will be making stops in local communities to hand out free books and ice cream. Over 1,000 new and gently used children’s books were collected through recent drives at Darling’s locations and The Briar Patch bookstore.

Through this program, coordinated by Literacy Volunteers of Bangor, any child, parent or grandparent can visit the bookmobile at any stop and choose one or more books to keep and enjoy a free ice cream. The truck will be making multiple stops in several greater Bangor area communities over several days; locally they will be in Old Town and Alton on Tuesday, August 12 from 12 to 2 p.m., with stops to include Anderson Lane, Penny Lane, University Park, and local parks.
