Preparations for President Wilson’s return to France were completed today at the White House. He will sail on the transport George Washington Wednesday morning, after speaking Tuesday at the League of Nations with former President Taft, in New York. The President will leave Washington on a special train Tuesday afternoon after the adjournment of Congress and will stop for an hour and a half at Philadelphia to visit his daughter, Mrs. Sayre, and his new grandson. He will leave New York at 8:30 in the evening and will board the transport.
50 years ago: 1969
The Lake Grove Group Extension will meet Monday, March 3, at the barbershop, where Carlene Maloney will conduct a program titled “Color and Home Furnishings — The Right Room for You.”
25 years ago: 1994
Barbara Payne will be the guest speaker of the first meeting in 1994 of the Paris Cape Historical Society. Mrs. Payne’s program will be about the turn of the century immigration into Maine of various ethnic groups, especially the Finnish. Mrs. Payne will discuss their contributions. The business meeting begins at 7 p.m. in the Paris Community Room next to the Town Office and will be led by President Charles E. Johnson. A native of South Paris and a graduate of Paris High School, Mrs. Payne was the 13th and youngest child of Finnish immigrant parents. She has been active in the Finnish-American Heritage Society of Maine and has shared their heritage with many historical, school and nursing-home groups. She is a member of SAD 17 board of directors, and mother to three grown children and grandmother of two.
