POLAND — The annual Dupuis corn roast was held Sept. 5 at the home of Paul and Claire Dupuis on Hardscrabble Road.

The first annual corn roast was held in September of 1935 at the home of  Emmanuel (Man) Dupuis and Lucienne (Lou) Plante on Flanders Street in Auburn. Five generations later the reunion continues each year on the Sunday before Labor Day.

Families and friends from California, Pennsylvania, New York and New England attend the reunion that takes place rain or shine, with 80 to 140 people in attendance.

At the reunions, birthdays and anniversaries are celebrated, weddings are performed and the renewals of marriage vows are held. Family members play horseshoes or volleyball and there is also a “B.S. Club” that adds the person with the most outrageous story to its membership every year.

Raffles are held and the money is used to help defer the cost of hosting the event. In addition, each year, before the group picture is taken, loved ones that have died are remembered and a prayer is said for the men and women who are serving in the military. The night ends with a bonfire.

The next corn roast is planned for Sept. 4, 2011.
