Turner Fire Chief Nathan Guptill said firefighters received a call that the house had smoke filling the basement.

By the time firefighters arrived, Guptill said, the entire house was filled with smoke and flames had spread from the basement to the attic.

The homeowners, whom Guptill declined to identify, were able to escape the house.

“One of the homeowners suffered minor smoke inhalation, but other than that no injuries,” Guptill said.

According to Turner’s 2020 tax commitment books, the house at 152 Main St. is owned by Ross Gagne.

The house suffered extensive smoke and water damage, according to Guptill.

Firefighters from at least eight other communities, including Buckfield, Canton, Greene, Hebron and Sumner, responded to the blaze.

Guptill said the State Fire Marshal’s Office was expected to investigate the fire Wednesday morning to determine its cause.
