I offer my praise to a Mr. Pelletier from Second Street in Auburn who appeared before the Auburn School Committee on Nov. 17. I was nearly brought to tears by his touching recount of the day spent at his grandson’s elementary school (I believe it was in Minot). It was about veterans — the Greatest Generation — meeting a new generation.
This time he was making a presentation to the Auburn School Committee, but I was disappointed by the reaction from the members of the committee. Auburn does not have a program as wonderful as the one Mr. Pelletier described, but it should.
To see the emotion he displayed speaking about it … how his fellow servicemen enjoyed it, and the growing disconnect with the up-and-coming generations. I think such a program is something the schools should make mandatory. That is community enrichment at its finest.
I thank him again for sharing.
