First aid classes

OXFORD — Heartsaver CPR and first aid classes will be held at the Oxford Public Safety Building on Dec. 11, Jan. 22, Feb. 19 and March 19.

Classes will run from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Only one class is needed for certification, which is accepted for day care, foster parents, Maine guides, forestry and any other non-healthcare position.

Healthcare provider recertification classes will be held from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Dec. 14, Jan. 10, Feb. 22 and March 15.

Teddy Bear Dance

PARIS — The Swingin’ Bears Square Dance Club will host its annual Teddy Bear Dance at 7 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 11, at the Oxford hills Middle School, 100 Pine St., South Paris.

The dance supports Right Start For Kids, a program of Community Concepts in the Oxford Hills area. Donations of stuffed toys are requested. Dancers and nondancers are welcome.

Ray Hilton will be the caller, giving easy calls for those who began lessons in September and more advanced calls for more experienced dancers.

A new class for beginners will begin Jan. 5 with Al Hipkins, club caller. Round dancing will be intermingled with the square dancing. Carol Stewart will cue the rounds.

There will be refreshments at intermission, pot of gold drawing and door prizes. Admission for dancers is $6 a person; free for nondancers.

Heywood party

NORWAY — The annual Heywood Club Christmas party will be held on Monday, Dec. 13, starting with the social hour any time after 5 p.m. at Rowena Palmer’s house, 286 Round the Pond Road.

Members will meet at 6:30 at the First Congregational Church, South Paris, for dinner. Cost is $7 a person. In lieu of a gift exchange, they  will take up a collection and make a donation to a needy family or cause. RSVP by Thursday, Dec. 9, to Patty Rice at 743-2285.

AARP meeting

PARIS — The holiday meeting of AARP Oxford Hills Chapter 5297 will be held Monday, Dec. 13, at the First Congregational Church, East Main Street, South Paris.

Lunch will be served at noon, and reservations are required by calling Ruth at 744-9069 by noon Friday, Dec. 10. Cost of the chicken pie dinner will be $6.50.

Christmas for kids donations are still being accepted. Members should also bring  total volunteer hours for the year.

There will be no meeting in January. The winter weather cancellation policy is to meet the following day, Tuesday. Cancellations will be announced on radio station WOXO, 92.7 or if school has been canceled.

Bridge play

OXFORD — Oxford Hills Duplicate Bridge Club met Dec. 3  in the recreation hall, King Street. A four-table Howell movement was played.

Finishing first in flight A were Mary Trafton and Linda Leotsakos; second, Dick Allen and Les Buzzell; third, were Priscilla Rooth and Hazel Glazier, who were first in flight B.

Second in flight B were Carol Curran and Barbara Vanderzanden and third, Milton McKeen and Jim Krainin.

There will be another game on Friday, Dec. 10,  same time and place. A partner is guaranteed and all bridge players are invited. The club’s Christmas party will be held Friday, Dec. 17.

Winter market

NORWAY — The Norway Winter Market at the Grange will be held each Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. through Dec. 18 at the historic Grange Hall located at 15 Whitman St.
