Public screening

MONMOUTH — Cumston Public Library will host a free public screening of “What in the World Are They Spraying?”at 6:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 10, in the lower level program room. The documentary will introduce attendees to a rapidly developing industry called geo-engineering, which is having an effect on crops, wildlife and human health. The film should especially interest farmers, foresters and others concerned about the environment. For more information, call the library at 933-4788.

Christmas musical

LISBON — A Christmas musical, “Come Let Us Worship the King,” will be held at 7 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 11, and at 11 a.m. and 6 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 12, at Open Door Bible Church, 26 Gartley St. Admission is free and all are welcome. For more information, call 353-2268.

Santa parade

SABATTUS — The Sabattus Fire Department will have a Santa parade at 1 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 12,l starting at the Our Lady of the Rosary Church, to Garden Heights Drive, High, Elm, Hemlock, Greene, High, Union, Main, Phelan and Park street, ending at the American Legion Post 135.

Tree lighting

AUBURN — United New Auburn Association will hold a New Auburn Christmas Tree Lighting at 5 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 12. Santa’s sleigh will leave Raymond Park at 5, arriving at Rolly’s parking lot at 5:15. The tree will be lit at 5:30 and hot chocolate and doughnuts will be available.

Dart contest

AUBURN — The New Auburn Social Club is hosting a benefit dart shoot-out at noon Sunday, Dec. 12. Entry is a $10 unwrapped children’s gift or $10, to be donated to families in need. There will be pay-outs to the winners.

Cantus to appear

AUBURN — Court Street Baptist Church will host the choral group, Cantus, at 6 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 19. Now in its third season, Cantus is a mixed ensemble of choristers based in Poland Spring, singing primarily sacred music and drawing heavily from the British choral tradition.

This version of the Festival of Lessons and Carols weaves together scripture and song. For more information on the Advent event, call 784-6661.

Chinese auction

POLAND SPRING — Poland Spring Academy will host its annual Christmas Chinese auction on Sunday, Dec. 12, at the Excelsior Grange Hall, Harris Hill Road, Poland. Tickets will be sold beginning at noon, with drawings starting at 3 p.m. Many gift items, including gift certificates from area merchants, will be available. Lunch and snack items will also be sold. AUBURN — The YMCA will sponsor a visit with Santa from 8 to 10 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 12, at Applebee’s. A pancake breakfast will include pictures with Santa for the kids. Tickets are $5 a person and can be purchased at the YMCA, 62 Turner St. Proceeds will help support family programming and the free child watch service the YMCA offers members.

Holiday fair

POLAND — The Poland Historical Society will present its holiday fair from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 11, at the Old Schoolhouse next to the Town Hall on Route 26. Specialty foods, holiday gifts, decorations and a raffle will be available. A luncheon featuring a choice of stew or chowder, dessert and beverage will be served. Proceeds will benefit the future building of a Memorabilia Barn.

The purpose of the barn will be to display items donated by area residents that are too large to be displayed in the restored District 22 schoolhouse. Currently there is not enough space, and a barn will ensure that items are properly stored and preserved. The barn is to be located to the rear of the schoolhouse and connected by a pass-through.

Solstice celebration

AUBURN — Leah Wolfsong and Roots Down Music will present the 14th annual Solstice Celebration Concert and Ceremony at 7 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 11, at the Unitarian Universalist Church, Pleasant Street. Tickets are $10 for adults, $8 for seniors and students, and free for children under 12. Tickets are available at the door or at Axis Natural Foods. Doors will open at 6 p.m. Proceeds will benefit Good Shepherd Food Bank.

Bridge results

LEWISTON — The Lewiston-Auburn Social Bridge Club winners at the Multi-Purpose Center on Dec. 6 were as follows:

First, Larry Fortier and Roger Labbe; second, Marta Clements and Hazel Glazier; third, Lue Bilodeau and Luke Merry; fourth, Nancy Farmer and Dick Allen; first in B, Larry Fortier and Roger Labbe; and second in B, Cynthia and Bill Clifford.
