GRAY — Senior guard Adam Jensen tabulated an impressive 28 points to power Gray-New Glouceter to a 71-56 victory over Wells in WMC boys’ basketball action Thursday.

The Patriots (1-2) did most of their damage in the first and third quarters as they played even in a combined second and fourth quarters. Ryan Cavallaro posted 14 points, while Heath Martell added 10 for Gray-New Gloucester.

Junior forward Josh Ingalls was the leading scorer for the Warriors (1-2) in the losing effort.

Monmouth 61, Carrabec 27

MONMOUTH — Tim Whitmore provided 21 points as Monmouth sailed to a 61-27 victory over Carrabec in boys’ basketball action Thursday.

The Mustangs (3-0) took a convincing 33-10 halftime lead. Roger Bachelder contributed 16 points and Robby Neal added 15 points. Neal tossed three of his five field goals from three-point range, while Whitmore had four treys.

Ryan Rathburn was the only double-digit scorer for the Cobras (0-3) with 11 points.

Wiscasset 45, Jay 41, OT

JAY — Wiscasset never led in regulation and mustered only five total points in two quarters, but the Redskins got their act together and shook off Jay 45-41 in overtime.

The Redskins (3-0) final started hitting their free-throw shots, and Ashton Benn led the way with his 19 points. He was the only double-digit scorer for Wiscasset.

The frustrated Tigers (1-2) were lead by Jake Bessey, who scored 13 points and had four steals. Kyle Storer was a force on the boards, pulling down 14 rebounds and scoring six points. Nate Shink scored seven points and grabbed 12 rebounds.

Greely 65, Poland 40

CUMBERLAND — Greely built a commanding lead in the first quarter, then put the game away by scoring the first eight points of the second half to pull away for a 65-40 victory over Poland.

The Rangers (3-0) opened a 23-9 advantage after the first quarter and maintained the 13-pount cushion through halftime at 36-23. The 8-0 run to start the third period led to a 22-11 advantage in the third that sealed the win.

Sam Johnston led Greely with a game-high 20 points, while Tannar Storey chipped in with 10 points. Poland (0-3) was led by Jake Littlefield with 14 points and Jonah Farrington had 11.

Elan 79, Pine Tree Academy 39

FALMOUTH — Senior guard Jack Peters recorded a double-double with 19 points and 10 rebounds to lead Elan to a comfortable 79-39 victory over Pine Tree Academy in boys’ basketball.

The Buccaneers (3-0) applied intense pressure in the first quarter, executing many fast breaks to take a 25-8 lead in the early frame and a 44-13 margin at the half.

Junior forward Malik Nunn also contributed a double-double with 14 points and 12 rebounds, while freshman forward Talin Rowe collected 13 points for Elan.

Junior point guard Tim McGuire paced the Breakers (0-3) with 16 points on six field goals, including a pair of treys, and two free throws.

Dirigo 68, Boothbay 62. OT

BOOTHBAY HARBOR — Josh Turbide and Cody St.Germain carried the load, scoring 17 points each, as Dirigo remained undefeated with a 68-62 triumph over Boothbay in overtime.

Both teams swaped scoring runs throughout the contest. Sophomore point guard Anthony DiMauro tied the score at 57-57 with less than a minute to go in regulation for the Seahawks (1-2). Dirigo failed to put the game away before the buzzer.

The Cougars (3-0) went up by three as overtime began and Boothbay was forced to engage in the fouling technique to an unsuccessful end.

Gould 53, Sacopee Valley 48

BETHEL — Gould Academy rallied from a 11-point deficit in the second half thanks to its defense to shelve a stubborn Sacopee Valley, 53-48, in a boys’ basketball game Thursday night.

Gould scored a measley 14 points in the first half before exploding with 39 in the second half. Taylor Peck-Moad lead the way for Gould with 18 points and teammates Matt Knox added 14 and Will Bunge scored 10.

For Sacopee Valley, Jeff Taylor scored the game-high 25 points and Ryan Morse added 14, two of which were 3-pointers.

Girls’ basketball

Greely 51, Poland 31

POLAND — Greely used its inside strength to control the paint en route to a 51-31 triumph over Poland in a WMC girls’ basketball game Thursday.

Greely (3-0) ran out to a 17-2 lead after the first quarter, but the Knights narrowed the gap to 19-11 by halftime. Greely, however, found the range again in the third eriod using a 19-6 run to regain momentum.

Emily Bolduc scored a game-high 16 points to lead Poland. The freshman point guard also had five steals and five rebounds. Lindsay Theriault chipped in with five boards and four steals.

Caroline Hunter paced the Rangers with 15 points.

Lisbon 59, Telstar 27

BETHEL — Junior quard Alexa Harmon tossed 19 points to lead Lisbon to a 59-27 rout over Telstar in MVC girls’ basketball action Thursday.

The Greyounds (2-1) pressed hard in the early going to force a nice complement of turnovers. Lisbon took advantage of many open shots to take a 32-15 lead at intermission.

Harmon sparked an 8-0 run with two of her four three-pointers to open the second half for the Greyhounds. Junior forward Jessica Campbell chipped in with 11 points for Lisbon.

Senior guard Emma Davis led the Rebels (0-3) with 10 points on four field goals in the losing effort.
